Handbuilding: Pinch, Coil, Slab mixed level class
Nov 10-Dec 15 / Tuesdays / 6-8:30

What You’ll Learn:
This intermediate handbuilding workshopwill guide students through the process of
making structurally sound large ceramic forms and how to incorporate sculpted human
elements such as faces, hands and feet. Using a combination of pinching, coiling, and
slab-building techniques, students will create pieces that range from functional pottery to sculptural vessels.
There will be a strong emphasis on surface design, I will walk students through my creative process and guide them on how to sculpt various figurative details. Students will be encouraged to explore a wide range of surface design approaches in their work, not limited to the human form.
Kate believes that playing with sculpting the human form brings spirit, life and whimsy into the craft. The goal of this class is for students to build upon their existing ceramic knowledge and to have fun playing with the beauty and life that surface design brings to a piece.
