Print & Play: Underglaze Transfers in Clay
Print & Play: Underglaze Transfers in Clay
Date: Oct 19th
Time: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: Clay Commons: 616 Industrial Street
Spend a full, hands-on day learning how to draw, print and decorate clay surfaces using underglaze transfers in this relaxed workshop. We’ll explore a variety of surface techniques, including underglaze paper transfers, slip play, monoprinting, and more — with plenty of time to get creative and make your own work.
In the morning, we’ll start with a group demo and warm-up projects on tiles, then dive into making and decorating your own pieces. You'll have the chance to decorate collaborative and personal works — including plates (we’ll have some pre-thrown ones to experiment on) or and other small forms you create yourself.
This class is intended for those with some clay experience and will not cover how to throw or handbuild. If you are still learning and/or are experienced and are looking to expand your surface decoration skills, this class will be a fun, exploratory dive into process and play.
What to Expect:
-
Learn to make and use underglaze transfer paper
-
Try tile and plate decoration techniques
